Happy Homecoming Day, Baby!

3 years ago, this little one moved in with me.

She is one of the kindest beings I’ve met so far in this existence.

I rescued her from an man who physically abused her and starved her for over a year. He abused her so badly, one day he feared she was hurt and dying and asked me to take her and get medical attention for her. I dropped everything, drove to his place, found her in the dirt floor basement. When she saw me she rolled around playfully on her back. She was so happy to see me. I told the man I would take care of her but would not bring her back.

Within 20 minutes she moved in with me and never looked back. She has trust issues and is extra timid with any movements or noises. I fear the trauma she went through still haunts her, but have focused on consistent, gentle care for her.

She has never scratched me or bitten me. She loves all things fluffy, adores smelling shoes and hands after I’ve been working in the garden. She is intrigued by birds, the mail carrier and loves to leap in the air to catch flies.

We play chase every morning while I’m making coffee. She has become a lap cat over time, but only when it’s on her terms. She adores scratching and rolling and sleeping on my handmade red Afghan rug.

In the summer she sleeps at my feet. In the cooler temperatures she curls up between my knees. I hate to disturb her when I need to get up, but she is very forgiving.

Happy Homecoming Day Baby!
